Social Work is really a vast field and the job prospects of a social worker are not limited to a particular specialization of the subject. Social workers deal with persons, families, organizations and groups. They try to lessen and prevent social problems caused by factors such as poverty, unemployment, alcoholism, lack of health services, family maladjustments or dysfunctional families, physical, mental and emotional handicaps, anti-social behaviour and poor housing.
The PG Department of Social work consists of a team of well-trained faculty and for a well thought out curriculum including a well-designed concurrent Field Work Training programme. At present, the Department offers a PG (MSW) programme with three specializations namely Personnel Management and Industrial Relations (PMIR), Medical and Psychiatry and Community Development.
Social workers can pursue a career in the fields of Clinical Social Work, School Social Work, Psychiatric Social Work, Criminology and Correctional Social Work, Medical Social Work, Community Organization, Industrial Social Work, Academics and also take up field based research in various NGO’s and government sponsored projects.
